Papergirl SF is an annual mail-art and delivery systems art project that collects artwork from all over the world and, in the style of American paperboys, distributes the art freely by bicycle to people in the streets of San Francisco. Sound awesome? We think so, too.
Behind The Scenes of The Papergirl SF 2011 Poster!
Hello folks!
We would like to share our creative process for designing the 2011 Papergirl SF commemorative poster. Each roll of artwork delivered by bicycle this year contained one of these smashing posters, masterfully printed by John Sullivan and company at Logos Graphics. Thanks, John! To all you lucky roll catchers, we hope you like it! Read more below for the skinny.

Jointly designed by yours truly, Heather and Nazir, the poster is a three-color screen print with a letterpressed blind emboss for our logo and signatures. We experimented a little bit and added some metallic paint to the blue, so it shimmers ever so slightly under bright light. We’ll up the ante next time. We had such an awesome time working with John, so you can expect more experimental collaborations with him in the future!

If you have never been to a print studio, Logos Graphics has an amazing space this is sure to inspire you to create professionally crafted artwork in both screen print and letterpress. Head down there for a studio tour sometime.

The final piece, hang it whichever way you like. Be sure to check out more of our behind the scenes photos of this beauty being made on Picasa! (video soon to come.)
Thanks again to our partners and everyone who participated this year. You made Papergirl SF 2011 so amazing and special, and you've inspired us to dream bigger and better for PG 2012. Until next year folks!
Happy cycling and art making!
Heather + Nazir
